Haute Ecole Spécialisée de Suisse Occidentale

HES-SO, , known in English as the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland, is the largest university of applied sciences and the third largest higher education institution of the country, with more than 21.000 students and a broad network of schools located in 7 cantons. HES-SO is organised in six faculties: Design & Visual Arts, Business Management & Services, Engineering & Architecture, Music & Performing Arts, Health and Social Work, and education and research are oriented towards practical applications in the same areas. HES-SO’s Technology for Human Wellbeing Institute and Digital Business Center contribute expertise in ICT, smart society concepts, and digital transformation.

Prof. Elena Mugellini

Full Professor / Head of Institute at HES

Elena is Professor at the Information and Communication Department of the University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland, Fribourg (EIA-FR). Elena is the leader of HumanTech Institute, former MISG research group. She is also member of the Telematics Technology Laboratory at the University of Florence. She holds a PhD in Telematics and Information Society received from the University of Florence in 2006, and a Master in Telecommunication Engineering from the same university received in 2002.

Prof. Leonardo Angelini

Assistant Professor

Leonardo Angelini is an Assistant Professor at the Haute école de gestion de Fribourg (HEG-FR), part of HES-SO. He also collaborates with the Haute école d'ingénierie et d'architecture de Fribourg (HEIA-FR) and conducts research at the HumanTech Institute. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from a joint program between the University of Fribourg and HES-SO, and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Computer and Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Perugia. His work focuses on user experience, assistive technologies, and human-computer interaction, integrating engineering with applied research in health and digital innovation.

Mrs. Benedetta Giachetti

Doctoral Candidate

Benedetta Giachetti is a doctoral candidate in Computer Science and Communication Systems at the Haute école d’ingénierie et d’architecture de Fribourg (HEIA-FR), part of the HES-SO network. Her research focuses on the development of personalized risk stratification and holistic management strategies for preventing cognitive impairment in patients with various cardiovascular phenotypes, as part of a European project. She is affiliated with the HumanTech Institute and works under the guidance of Professors Elena Mugellini and Omar Abou Khaled.

Mr. Koch Gaël

Master Student in Data Science

Gaël Koch is a scientific collaborator at the Haute école d'ingénierie et d'architecture de Fribourg (HEIA-FR), part of the HES-SO network. He works within the Department of Computer Science and Communication Systems, contributing to applied research projects. His role involves interdisciplinary collaboration, combining expertise in data analysis and technology to address complex challenges in the field.

Mr. Ugo Eb-Levadoux

Doctoral Candidate

Ugo Eb-Levadoux is a PhD student in Human-Computer Interaction at the HES-SO University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland, School of Management in Fribourg (HEG-FR). His research focuses on the UI/UX design of mobile and tablet applications for elderly users, conversational agent interaction, and the application of Behaviour Change Techniques (BCTs) in digital technologies, within the framework of a European project. He is affiliated with the Digital Business Center and conducts his research under the supervision of Professors Maurizio Caon and Leonardo Angelini.
