European Commission launches the European Network of AI-Powered Advanced Screening Centres

23 Mar 2026

Under the European Apply AI Strategy, the European Commission has announced the creation of a European Network of AI-Powered Advanced Screening Centres, aimed at strengthening disease prevention and early diagnosis across Europe.

The network will bring together healthcare organisations that are deploying, piloting, or evaluating AI solutions in clinical settings, with a focus on improving the prevention, early detection and diagnosis of cancer and cardiovascular diseases, two of the leading causes of mortality in Europe.

What will participating organisations gain?

The network will function as a community of practice, enabling organizations to exchange experiences, lessons learned and best practices in deploying AI technologies. It will also facilitate structured collaboration with peer institutions, researchers and industry partners.

In addition, organisations joining the network will benefit from:

  • ·         Knowledge exchange through peer learning, meetings and events
  • ·         Capacity-building support, including training on AI validation, ethics, interoperability and data management
  • ·         Early access to EU outputs from initiatives such as the European Health Data Space (EHDS), COMPASS-AI and Cancer Image Europe
  • ·         Cross-sector collaboration with healthcare providers, researchers and industry
  • ·         Participation in real-world studies on innovative, pre-market AI tools
  • ·         Recognition as early adopters, with visibility as EU reference sites for AI in healthcare

Call for expression of interest

Healthcare organisations interested in joining the network are invited to submit an expression of interest. The deadline for application is 10 April 2026.
